The OrthoMed Difference: ASC Case Study

Profile

  • Multi-specialty ASC owned and operated by a large national group

    • 2 operating rooms, 1 procedure room

    • Offers urology, pain management, orthopedics, ophthalmology, OB/GYN and otolaryngology

  • Located in Northeast Texas, near the border of Oklahoma

  • OrthoMed Services began: August 2020

Situation & Challenges

  • Prior coverage group was struggling to maintain profitability due to this facility’s relatively weak payor mix and decided to terminate coverage in June 2020 with only 30 days notice

  • OrthoMed was approached immediately to assume coverage beginning in July 2020 and overcame the following challenges:

    • Recruiting providers that the community trusts and are comfortable with the patient population

    • Significant licensing / credentialing needs to be fulfilled in a short amount of time

    • Bringing existing providers and ASC administration up to speed on OrthoMed’s protocols and workflow

The OrthoMed Solution

  • Conducted recruitment campaign to retain MDs and CRNAs already serving the ASC

  • Improved anesthesia program to OrthoMed’s market-leading standards of care

    • Upgraded the facility’s ultrasound unit to improve accuracy in regional anesthesia

    • Invested in continuing education for MD and CRNA providers to improve patient recovery

  • In-house RCM capabilities allowed OrthoMed to maximize reimbursement more than previous group

  • Implemented Graphium EHR management system, which received positive feedback from clinicians

  • 1 year contract awarded in July 2020, with subsequent 5-year renewal in 2021
